ThunderCats (Trailer WonderCon)
EEPS!! *jumps up and down like crazy bunny* Excited I am, yessssssssssssssss!!!!
I'm so totally cosplaying Cheetara, she's as kick-ash as ever.
Though thankfully they redesigned her outfit so that she's not donning a swimsuit-'tard this time around. :P
Have I mentioned that I'm excited???!!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!

Book review time!
Viking greetings, my future minions!
It's been awhile since last I blogged, but I feel like blogging tonight as I've been on a writing palooza of sorts.
I was recently asked to write a review for Jeff Smith's Quest For The Spark: Book One (which is actually written by Tom Sniegoski under the watchful eye of Jeff Smith... just so you know.)
Being the oh-so-generous viking that I am, I have chosen to share it here as well on my most humblest of humbley blogs.
Well... here goes nothing for a viking night owl's review. Hope you enjoy it!
As a fan of Jeff Smith's graphic novel series Bone (Parental guidance should be considered with younger children when reading the original story, as the series has some darker occult thematic elements.) I was immediately drawn to the Quest For the Spark: Book One.
This story begins after the original series of Bone but focuses on an entirely new group of characters, although we are granted a brief glimpse of Grandma-Ben and Thorn who will most likely become more predominant as this story arc continues.
I'm not going to elaborate on the story as I think it's worth buying and reading it for yourself as it's not that difficult a story to read and... truthfully there's really not that much to tell as it's the first of a trilogy of books.
This book is a "basic setup" of new characters that come to the aid of the now Queen Thorn who has become dangerously ill by a dark and mysterious force overtaking the world as we know it.
And with that, I've probably given away too much of the plot.
The story is written by Tom Sniegoski and illustrated by Jeff Smith.
Sniegoski does a good job taking up the Bone story mantle. It is well paced, and for the target age audience I imagine it will keep their interest throughout.
Although it is obviously written in the 9-12 age group it is still an enjoyable read for those of us who are "older kids"... especially if we "older kids" now have younger kids of our own whom we'd love to introduce to the Bone universe.
Two "bones" I have to pick (unintended pun) with the book is:
1. Tom Sniegoski REALLY over-wrote/played the rat creatures. Of course I AM speaking from an uber-fan's perspective... so perhaps I'm just overly picky when it comes to my beloved "stupid stupid rat creatures". Sniegoski dumbs them down to such an extent that it pains me to think of it. Uff da!
2. More illustrations please! The illustrations are beautiful with gorgeous coloring by Steve Hamaker. There just needed to be more of them. It was almost sparing on full page illustrations and the chapter header illustrations just didn't do it for me. I need more, more, MORE please!!
As Lewis Carroll's Alice said "What is a book without pictures?" Especially one that is aimed towards a younger audience and/or drooling fans like me????
Overall the story is filled with fun adventure and interesting characters (both new and old) in the world of Bone. I love the flying airship and mysterious forest dwelling creatures, as well as the brief encounter with Grandma Ben and Thorn. (Trying not to give away spoilers here, folks.)
The book itself feels great to hold and flip through, but sturdy enough to last a long time. It has that "I'm reading a neat-o-splenderiffic, filled-to-the-brim-with-adventurous-magic book" feel that I love.
As a fan of the Bone series, I recommend buying this book. It's not "on par" with the original, but it does follow in the same vein and is really a wonderful adventure book that you definitely don't want missing from your library.
I do hope my most 'umble review aides you in your decision to purchase this book.
Have a great weekend and make sure to get out and enjoy this wonderful world we live in!
Cheers from your neighborhood viking sunshine!
